Each year our members can nominate colleagues for two awards: the NZMSS Award, and the John Morton Medal.

NZMSS Award

This highly prestigious award was inaugurated in 1985 to recognise “a person’s continued outstanding contribution to marine science in New Zealand”.

John Morton Medal

This medal is awarded to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of marine conservation and sustainability in New Zealand.

NZMSS Special Award

At the 2009 conference, the NZMSS council presented Bob Hickman with a special award and lifetime membership in recognition of his tireless contributions to NZMSS over many years.
